Lasting Powers of Attorney

A Lasting Power of Attorney is a straightforward  way of enabling people who are still mentally capable to decide who will deal with their affairs or their personal welfare were they to become mentally incapable through illness or accident. You can determine the exact powers that the Attorney has over your affairs. If you were to become mentally incapable your Attorney can apply to the Court of Protection to register the power.

Have you considered who you would like to look after your affairs if you became unable to do so? By arranging an LPA, decisions regarding pensions, investments, property and other assets, or about your personal welfare, would be made by a person of your choice and can help prevent family squabbling under such circumstances. Not planning for this possibility can mean that sometimes it is too late. If you fail to elect anyone then your affairs will be arranged by the Court of Protection itself through its Public Guardianship Office. Their role in your affairs may be costly, intrusive and frustrating. An LPA can mean seamless management of your affairs and consequent peace of mind.
